What Is IVF?

It involves extracting eggs, retrieving a sperm sample, and then manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish. The embryo(s) is then transferred to the uterus. How Is IVF Performed?

Step 3: Fertilization: The retrieved eggs are fertilized in a lab using collected sperm.
Step 4: Embryo Culture: Once the eggs are fertilized, they’re monitored to ensure healthy development.
Step 5: Embryo Transfer: Embryos are transferred into the woman’s uterus three to five days following egg retrieval and fertilization.
What Should I Expect During and After IVF
The IVF cycle involves several steps that take place over a few weeks. Discomfort may be experienced due to ovary stimulation. After transferring the embryo(s), you can resume normal activities with caution.
Pregnancy tests are typically taken two weeks after embryo transfer. The period following the test can be emotional, and support from friends, family, or a counselor can be beneficial.
